Steiner is a leading member of the Bennington School, which is a group of abstract artists associated with Bennington College. He was born 1945 and had his first solo exhibition at the age of 18 years old. At the age of 28, Steiner had already made an important contribution to American art and the history of modernist sculpture. His sculptures have evolved over the years from a study of minimal, primary structures to the intensive examination of the legacy of Cubist construction. Works by Steiner are included in public collections around the world, including: Center Georges Pompidou in Paris, Hack Museum in Germany, Museum of Modern Art in New York, Power Gallery of Contemporary Art in Australia, and Macdonald Stewart Art Centre in Canada.
