Rocaille work or “Rococo” is the most characteristic feature of Louis XV decoration. Rococo art is the combination of the fantastic and the real, objects that are true to life, but grouped together in a manner physically impossible. All these elements of decoration are caught up in one great swirling movement showing little regard for symmetry and defying even the most elementary laws of balance. This mirror is an elegant blend of two of the most important features of Louis XV ornamentation: luscious curves and floral motifs. A pier mirror is a large mirror typically set between two windows.
