Old Master Paintings Travel from Europe to New Buckhead Gallery
A New Offering for Atlanta’s Art Community
ATLANTA, Sept. 30, 2003 – Old Master Paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries, accompanied by important Louis XV and Louis XVI period furniture, are filling the rooms of a new and unique Buckhead art gallery.
Owned by Atlanta native Spalding Nix, Spalding Nix Fine Art is Atlanta’s only gallery specializing in 17th and 18th century Old Master Paintings. The gallery will open its doors to Atlanta and to the Southeast on Tuesday, September 30th.
“Our collection includes paintings from all over Europe and artists whose works hang in the Louvre and High Museum, and our furniture is from the period that set the standard for the finest ever made. I am particularly excited about the magnificent Dutch and Flemish paintings,” says Spalding Nix. “I’m delighted to bring this period in art to the Southeast, and I believe art lovers will be pleased with the exceptional quality we are offering for their collections.”
Housed in the heart of Buckhead on the charming East Shadowlawn Avenue, Spalding Nix Fine Art adds to an area that remains a convenient center for Atlanta’s art and antique galleries.
Spalding Nix – an Atlanta native with a bachelor’s degree in Art History and Studio Art from the University of Virginia, a law degree from the University of Georgia and career experience at Washington’s National Gallery and Sotheby's auction house – created the gallery based on a shared love of art with his father, Lewis Nix. A founder of the Atlanta architectural firm Nix Mann & Associates (now Perkins & Will), Lewis Nix is using his retirement and part-time residence in Paris to help his son in this endeavor.
“The treasure hunt is a lot of hard work, more work than I envisioned in my retirement, yet it is a rewarding experience to help your son live out his life-long dream and to share the fine art we love with our hometown,” says Lewis Nix.
