Follower of Guido Reni
Born in Bologna, Guido Reni studied there at the Carracci Academy & had a talent for life drawings. He then traveled to Rome in 1600, where Raphael and other painters that dealt with classical & mythological themes influenced his work. Reni was commissioned to paint frescoes; the most famous of these was Aurora & the Hours, done for the Borghese family. When Annibale Carracci died, Reni took over as the most desired painter in Bologna & established his own studio. His work is praised for its lighting and composition, not to mention its influence on later Italian artists.
