Atlanta-based artist Kerry Hays’s “Containment” is a series of abstracted floral collages and layered geometric paintings exploring the tension between freedom and restriction. In her richly textured silk florals, Kerry pairs down the compositions reducing them to their essential expressive silhouettes. Multiple wax dye baths are layered to create color variations and additional textures. Her geometric paintings are slowly built using repeated applications of translucent to opaque layers of acrylic, bound and masked to create sharp edges and rhythmic patterns. Bright saturated colors push against these structured boundaries, generating color fields where softness and precision collide. Each piece is a dialogue between fluidity and control, inviting the viewer into a world that is both bound by restraint, yet uncontained.
